There's been a roadster-sized hole in our hearts since the Honda S2000 went to the big racetrack in the sky, but now Honda is cooking up something that could fill that hole. Or not, because it's considerably smaller, less powerful, and probably not coming to the U.S.
Still, I want to like the 2015 Honda S660, because I think it has the potential to be fun. Thanks to a leaked page from a Japanese market brochure, we now know a little more about its power, weight and color options.
TTAC reports that based on the brochure page — which I've helpfully included for any Japanese readers out there — that the S660 will have a 660 cc motor with 63 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 77 pound-feet of torque at 2,600 rpm. You're gonna really have to count on that VTEC kicking in. Yo.
On the plus side, the S660 weighs a mere 1,830 pounds, or at most 2,116 pounds with options (Is it just me, or does that seem like a lot of options?) so at least it's super light. Power goes to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or CVT.
But let's be real about what this is: it's a kei car. It's not an S2000 replacement, it's a kei car, and those almost never, ever make it to America. There's been talk of a larger engine for foreign markets — as much as a whole liter! — but I wouldn't bet on us getting this.
In fact, we probably have a better shot at getting the Honda Civic Type R, and even that's pretty slim.
