Ten Car Rumors That Never Come True

Don't hold your breath for any of these ten car rumors. Even though they refuse to die, none will happen.

10.) Buick Is Making A New Grand National

Every internet commenter who thinks they're a product planner knows that what Buick really needs to be cool again is a new Grand National, and while that would give them some enthusiast cred, don't bank on it happening.

I mean, they could reskin the ATS-V with its turbo'd V6. And that would be great, but that's not happening.

9.) Subaru Is Going To Turbo The BRZ

We've known that this won't be happening for quite some time now, but the rumors refuse to die. Maybe we can blame its persistence on wishful thinking.

8.) Small, Affordable Pickups Coming To US

Remember when the US was supposed to get an affordable, compact, pickup? Me too, but until the chicken tax is dead we won't be seeing a Mahindra or an Amarok on these shores.

7.) Porsche Will Make An Affordable Roadster

For years we've been hearing about an baby Porsche to slot under the Boxster, but it simply isn't going to happen. It's too good to be true.

Oh well. At least used Boxsters and Caymans are a pretty good deal right now.

6.) Alfa Romeo Will Make A Full Return To The US

As a former Alfa owner, the possibility that I could buy a new one with a warranty excites me deeply, and while I think the 4C is promising, I'm not holding out for a full US return. We've been hearing about it too damn long.

But if it does happen, I'll be first in line.

5.) There's Gonna Be A New Ford Bronco

Bronco nostalgia is at an all time high with prices for vintage examples skyrocketing, but that unfortunately doesn't mean Ford will make a new one. Let's just hope that all these crazy new GT/Mustang GT350R rumors come true.

4.) Saab Will Make A Comeback

The world is a little less bright without the quirky, but eminently lovable Saab, and while everyone would like Saab to make a comeback, it just doesn't seem in the cards.

It's unfortunately turning into a bit of a maybe they will, maybe they won't situation.

3.) Mazda Brings Back Rotary, Makes RX-7 Successor

Rumors about the return of the rotary and a successor for the RX-7 have been around forever, but it's simply not happening.

Mazda is a small, independent carmaker that, despite recent success, doesn't have the cash to gamble on an expensive sports car with a rotary. Besides, making a rotary engine doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense when you've got great, reliable Skyactiv engines.

2.) Carmakers Are In Bed With Big Oil, Won't Sell Ultra Fuel Efficient Cars

This absurd conspiracy theory — brought to you by the sort of person who believes in chemtrails, or still thinks the President wasn't born in America — never seems to die. Most recently it targeted Volkswagen with its ultra-efficent XL-1 and as always, it's utter bullshit.

Just ignore it next time your crazy uncle forwards you an email propagating this nonsense.

1.) Flying Cars Are Coming

Yep! Just another two years (it's always two years) and we'll all have flying cars! This is a thing that totally will happen.
