It's incredibly easy to make the argument that sponsorship destroys how a sport looks. On the other hand, I think that sponsorship has only enhanced the way motorsport looks. Call me a corporate tool, but some motorsport liveries are just gorgeous.
I was particularly struck by Volkswagen's rally livery. That big goofy R on the side, because the letter "R" means fast, somehow, I guess, because racing, and a bright red bull on the blue and the white, and just oh, it's amazing. A lot of rally liveries have been amazing that way, like the Alitalia Lancia Stratos and the iconic Subaru blue/gold combination.
What type of racing do you think has the best liveries? Is it GT racing, with its Gulf blue and orange paint, or NASCAR, with the Valvoline colors that was so loved in the 1980s?
