Take a good, long look at the Audi Prologue Concept. It's something you're going to be seeing for a long time. And that's a good thing.
This is the first car to come from Audi's new design chief, Marc Lichte, who came from Volkswagen and is responsible for impressive work like the MK7 Golf and new European Passat. (You know, the one that's nicer and better looking than our Passat.)
If you've cranked out some of the best looking luxury cars of the last decade as Audi has, you don't want to rock the boat too, too much. So Lichte didn't, but he did move the brand's design forward in a positive and progressive way.
From now on, future Audis will have the same trapezoid single frame grille as always, but it will be wider, lower and more "horizontal."
"This car is much more than a concept car," Lichte said. "This car is the new era of Audi design. Now is the time to take a bigger step."
Here's the part I like the best: the nose. Notice the way it kind of tapers off at the end, curves downward. It's a lot like a Tesla Model S in that way, and I don't think that's a bad thing at all. The whole thing is incredibly streamlined.
While there's no word on whether the Prologue itself will see production, Lichte said the car will directly influence all the larger Audis coming soon — A6, A7, and A8.
But while they're at it, why not just put this big coupe into production? A nice, huge luxury coupe, like the Americans used to make. If it looks half as good as this, I'm all for it.
