This Boring Camry Is An 850 HP Sleeper That'll Melt Your Eyeballs Off

The Toyota Camry is the gold standard of beige. Apparently knowing that full well, Toyota saw fit to take to SEMA the ultimate Sleeper Camry. No, seriously. That's what they're calling it – the Toyota Sleeper Camry. And it's got an 850 horsepower, supercharged, nitrous-injected V8 that will make you scream for momma.

The build team at Toyota's Motorsports Technical Center started out by grabbing a regular old 2015 Camry, and stripping it of its soccer-kid-and-grandma toting skin, like Buffalo Bill's greatest tailoring job yet.

Next, they completely built a custom full tube-frame chassis. And inside that, they shoved a 5.7-liter V8 they got out of a Tundra pickup they had lying around, along with the transmission, rear axle, and electronics. The V8 is fine on its own, with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet, but it's not truly worthy of SEMA's traditional aftermarket-on-meth manufacturer showcase.

To get it there the MTC strapped on a supercharger. And then to get it there even more, they strapped on a wet nitrous system.

All-in, the ultimate sleeper to end all Camry sleepers puts out 850 horsepower. Slap on some drag racing tires out back and the thing will do a quarter-mile in 9.8 seconds, which is fast enough to completely turn your eyeballs into liquid, I'm pretty sure.

For reasons that are entirely beyond my comprehension, I don't think Toyota's going to put the Sleeper Camry on sale. Which is a shame. I mean, who doesn't want a half-Camry half-pickup half-custom drag racer to use as their next beat-up livery cab?

This is the one Camry I would be proud to be caught dead driving.
