Behold the new chariot of choice for the Grocery Store Gran Prix. The X5 M and X6 M have been reborn, with more power, more torque, and more gizmos to make this pair of two-and-a-half ton pigs shake a hoof like they're on Dancing With The Swines.
First, there's the engine, the familiar twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that's found in the M5 and M6, putting out 567 HP and 553 pound-feet of torque – 53 more torques than their predecessors. Power is delivered to all four wheels through an eight-speed auto 'box, and 100 percent of the power can be shifted between the front and rear axles through a multi-plate clutch with torque vectoring. With launch control on, that's enough to get both SUVs from 0-60 in 4 seconds flat, with a top speed of 155 MPH.
The suspension uses a combination of stiffer springs and reworked wishbones, with a 10mm drop compared to the standard Xs, along with a self-leveling air suspension. Twenty-one inch wheels are at each corner, with 285/35 Michelin Pilot Super Sports up front and massive 325/30s out back. Six piston calipers are up front, and there's an alphabet soup of driver aids, from DSC to CBC to DBC and HDC that come along for the ride.
Both rigs make their debut at the LA Auto Show next month, with the X5 M starting at $99,650 and the X6 M commanding $103,050.
