Audi TT Sportback Concept: A 400 HP TT Sedan Works Shockingly Well

I'm probably gonna get a bunch of shit for saying this, but I think the Audi TT Sportback Concept works. It shouldn't work, but it works.

For the Paris Motor Show, Audi has grafted some length and width onto the all-new Audi TT coupe, and they've thrown on an extra set of doors. The result is this TT Sportback, which looks shockingly close to production ready in these photos.

Yeah, the "four-door coupe" trend is getting a bit tiresome, but I think Audi does it better than anyone currently with their A7 and A5 Sportback. Giving the TT the same treatment has resulted in an interesting creation.

Audi says the TT Sportback — built on the same MQB platform as the A3, MK7 Golf and others — is 11.4 inches longer, 2.4 inches wider and 1.2 inches shorter in height than the TT coupe. The wheelbase is 4.7 inches longer too.

And like the other TT, this car gets Audi's new Virtual Cockpit, which replaces a central infotainment screen with an interface on the dash right in front of the driver. The rest of the interior looks production-ready too.

The best part is what's under the hood of this concept: the 2.0-liter TFSI engine you find in all sorts of Volkswagen Group cars, except here it's been boosted to produce 400 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Equipped with all-wheel drive, they say it will do zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Can't argue with that.

I like this thing. I know a lot of people won't, but it's weird and different and I think it looks cool. No word from Audi on production plans yet, but I think we can anticipate a greenlight pretty soon.
