If you're in Austin, or Texas, or America, or the Western Hemisphere, then Circuit of the Americas is the place to be this weekend. And Jalopnik will be there!
Racing teams are hustling and bustling out at the circuit in preparation for this weekend's Lone Star Le Mans, which features not one but two major races in a single day.
First, there's a Continental Sports Car Challenge race on Friday. Then on Saturday we have a Tudor United Sports Car Championship race, the second to last on their calendar before Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. The successor to American Le Mans and the Rolex series features Porsches, Corvettes, Vipers and Ferraris duking it out on the track while various prototypes do the same.
After that, there's the World Endurance Championship's 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas. For those not in the know, this is the series that hosts the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This one starts around 5 p.m., and not only is this the only American race on the WEC calendar, it's also the circuit's first-ever night race.
While we won't have our sick mobile command center RV like we did at Watkins Glen, your Jalopnik staff (specifically me and Stef Schrader) will be there capturing the action.
That means taking bad photographs, getting yelled at by race marshals, staring at engine parts and pretending to know what they are, trying to schmooze with Mark Webber, and eating shrimp in the hospitality suites.
It's hard work, but somebody's gotta do it.
I don't really have a plan for this weekend except to find cool shit and write about it, so expect some dispatches from the track throughout the day. And if you're there too, let us know. If you can't make it, I understand both races will be live on Fox Sports 2, so you should blow off whatever errands you had planned on Saturday and watch that instead.
Because America. More specifically, and more importantly, Because Texas.
