You know how there are some cars that are truly amazing and highly coveted, but have certain versions that you just don't want? That's what we're gonna talk about today.
Thanks to Regular Car Reviews we've been fawning over the E30 3-Series even more than usual lately. As well we should! The E30 had great style, power and handling, and it's just as good today as it was in the 1980s. Better, even, now that it's cheaper (unless you're buying an M3, in which case good luck.)
But nothing is more disappointing when you're trawling Craigslist for E30s and you find what seems to be a great deal, only to discover that it was a 325e or 325es. You don't want that one.
See, the "e" models featured a 2.7-liter inline six that redlined at just 5,000 RPM in the name of fuel economy. Sounds like a shitty idea for a non-diesel engine, right? It sure was. The 325e was not the E30 you wanted. (The 528e got the same motor, and it sucked too.)
That's our question of the day: What's the worst version of a great car, old or new?
