How much more American could the F-35 Lightning II-themed 2015 Ford Mustang be? None. None more American. Ford just released the first live shots of the custom car headed to a charity auction soon, and it's looking sharp.

Sure, it's a tribute to a fighter jet with an extremely dubious (and expensive) history. I'll let that slide because the car looks supremely kickass. Open up, motherfucker! Freedom is here! In Mustang form.

This is the car that will be auctioned at the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual Gathering of Eagles charity event in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Proceeds go to a program that helps get young kids interested in aviation.

And like the standard upcoming 2015 Mustang GT, the F-35 Lightning II-themed car packs a 5.0-liter V8 under its hood with 435 horsepower. All the better for spreading that sweet, sweet freedom.

I think the whole kit turned out pretty well. Any takers?
