Dead: Nissan Cube

The Nissan Cube is dead. And not just the one Doug sold so he could move, all of them after the 2014 model year.

That's the word on the street, anyway. Sources told Autoblog that the cube-shaped Cube has been axed from Nissan's 2015 U.S. lineup. A Nissan spokesman officially confirmed the Cube's death in Canada too.

Soon, North America shall be Cube-less.

And that's kind of a shame. Was the Cube a great car? Not really, but it was funky, unusual, and very, very Japanese, so much so that it was almost like it slipped into our country without Nissan or immigration officials noticing and then just decided to ride it out as long as it could.

But the Cube failed to find a footing with U.S. buyers. Good Car Bad Car reports sales figures were initially decent at launch in 2010, but they quickly fell off to abysmal levels. Only about 300 to 400 were sold each month this year in the U.S.; in Canada, a single, lone Cube was sold in each of the past three months.

Rest in peace, Cube. You may have been the most reliable car ever owned by a Jalopnik writer, and that's something to be proud of.
