How do you get people to pay attention to your security conference? Offer up a five-figure bounty to hack some headline-grabbing technology. In this case, it's the Tesla Model S and a check for $10-large.
That's what next week's SyScan conference in Beijing is offering to attendees that can crack the Model S' computers and do dirty things to its silicon.
The organizers haven't said where the car is coming from and exactly what they hope to do. And of course Tesla isn't involved. But the automaker's rep on the security front is pretty good, allowing anyone that finds a vulnerability to report the issue. Hopefully anyone that succeeds in next week's challenge will do the right thing.
