I'm about to make a bold claim that will probably send some of you into a fit of Internet-screaming: the C2 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray is the most beautiful American car ever made. Prove me wrong, children!

I like the coupe a little better, but when the sun comes out it's hard to argue with the convertible version tested here by our British pals at XCAR. In their latest video they take a stunning, pristine red and black 1967 convertible out for a spin and walk away very impressed. Listen to the roar of that 327 cubic inch small block!

The second-generation C2 was the car that really put the Corvette on the map, and the car that finally delivered on its original promise: a European-style sports car with American V8 power. No wonder it was the ride of choice for many of America's spacemen.

Drive a Sting Ray at least once before you die. I know it's on my bucket list.
