This weekend, IndyCars are running on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This is a thing that has never happened before. It's also the first time IndyCars have ever run at IMS in the rain. Here's what happened when one of them hit a puddle.
Former series Champ Ryan Hunter-Reay was ok after the incident, which caused a red flag and cost him his two fastest laps in the session. Hunter-Reay blamed the crash on standing water, which is totally legitimate. These cars don't react well to puddles like this and end up hydroplaning very easily.
That meant that Hunter-Reay lost the pole position and it instead went to Colombian Sebastian Saavedra, his first ever pole. Hopefully it rains for the race tomorrow (3:30 PM ET on ABC) since that'll make it even more exciting.
