Not to sound like a cranky old man, but it's a strange world we live in that a Lamborghini – a brand so steeped in Italian heritage despite being owned by Audi for the last decade and a half – could be built in Slovakia. But then it's the Lamborghini Urus we're talking about, the company's upcoming SUV.
According to Automobile News Europe, sources involved with the project say the Urus could be built alongside the Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg at VW's Bratislava plant when it goes into production in 2017. Bratislava isn't exactly right around the corner from the Sant'Agata plant turning out the Aventador and Huracan models right now.
Is that going to be a big deal for buyers of the Urus? Probably not in markets like China, Russia and the Middle East, which are expected to be its largest. It's a bit odd that Porsche, which builds the Cayenne from similar pieces as the Audi and VW SUVs, gets to stamp a Made in Germany label as the Cayenne rolls out of its factory in Leipzig.
But hey, this is VW's world. People are just buying SUVs in it.
