One of the most unusual things about motorcycle racing is that they disassemble, clean and reassemble the whole bike over and over again throughout the race weekend.
Everything must be cleaned and inspected for signs of wear. Anything less than perfect gets swapped out for a new piece.
So, here are some photos from the post-qualifying tear-down of the various MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 motorcycles at the 2014 Grand Prix of the Americas.
Because motorcycle teams take up far less room than the auto racing teams who also run Circuit of the Americas, several the garages were split among multiple teams, with partitions dividing out the space.
Some teams' pit garage spaces straddled multiple garages, as the folding walls that usually separate out each garage space were folded back to cram in as many teams as possible into the pit lane garages.
Even if you know next to nothing about motorcycles, a MotoGP race is well worth attending. I can only think of a few instances where cars get taken apart to this degree, and that usually means something's gone wrong.
And of course, everything was back together again the next morning, ready to race.
