Volkswagen Midsize Coupe Concept Exists Because Of Skoda

Someone at Volkswagen took one look at the Skoda VisionC Concept and thought, "Hey why don't we have a car like that?" Then someone else pointed at the Volkswagen CC and decided to design the Volkswagen Midsize Coupe Concept, being shown next week at the Beijing Auto Show.

Do you remember the Volkswagen CC? Even VW doesn't appear to, which is why when it released sketches for the Midsize Coupe Concept, they said, "it's a four-door coupé the like of which has never been seen before in this vehicle class." Um, right.

I see what they were trying to get at, though. Because unlike the CC based on the last generation Passat, the Midsize Coupe Concept apparently started life as something Jetta-sized. VW's designers then stretched it so that it's wider than even the Passat, yet shorter than a Jetta.

Perhaps you should think of it as a four-door "coupe" version of the Jetta in the way the CC is related to the Passat. Or think of it as a less interesting version of the Skoda concept.

Whatever you think of it as, it doesn't look half bad.
