Volkswagen thinks people want more power for not much more money in the 2015 VW GTI, so it's offering 10 more horsepower and 58 more lb-ft of torque for just $195 over the outgoing sixth-gen car. It also thinks people want more leather seating surfaces, whatever those are.

VW has announced pricing on the Mk 7 GTI. The GTI S two-door with a manual kicks off at $24,395. That gets you a 210-hp 2.0-liter turbo four, Bluetooth, iPod connection and the GTI's trademark tartan seats.

Stepping up to the SE costs $3,000, but adds sunroof, Fender audio, keyless go and a backup camera among other niceties. But you lose the plaid in favor of black leather seats. That's boring. The loaded Autobahn only comes as a four-door now, but includes a power driver's seat and navigation.

There's more good news on the performance front, as all versions will be available later this year with the Performance Package. It's a $1,495 option that throws in another 10 horsepower, an electronic limited-slip diff and bigger brakes. For SE and Autobahn cars, another $800 gets adaptive damping to the Performance pack.

A six-speed DSG is $1,100, and xenon lights are available for $995. But just keep it simple and plaid and get an S with the Performance Pack.
