Detroit Electric is a new company bringing back a name from the early 1900s that announced last year it would make an electric Lotus in Michigan sometime in 2014. A lot of that is still true, except the car isn't going to be made in Michigan. Or the U.S. for that matter.
According to The Detroit News, Detroit Electric cites "supply chain logistics" as the reason its SP:01 electric car can't be made in Plymouth, Mich. as originally planned, but rather Holland. That plan for Plymouth included hiring 100 workers and building up to 2,500 cars per year.
Right now, according to The Detroit News, Detroit Electric has seven employees.
Still, it's not all bad for Wayne County. They're apparently in the running to get Detroit Electric's next model. That is, if this first one since 1939 ever gets to dealers.
