What Are The Worst Automotive Technologies To Have Been Mandated?

Yesterday, the NHTSA announced it would require backup cameras to be installed on basically all passenger cars sold in the U.S. by 2018. That means even a Smart Fortwo will have a camera in its back.

The backup camera seems unnecessary on a lot of cars, but that mandate won't have such a profound effect as the sealed beam headlamp requirement that was in effect in the U.S. from 1940 until 1983. It definitely held car design back and was outdated long before the lighting regulations were amended.

But there are other worthless/ugly/stupid technologies that have been required on cars over the years. What are the worst?
