Jet engines sure are neat! They power all sorts of things, mainly planes and helicopters. But what about things that aren’t planes or helicopters? Let’s talk about those for a hot minute.
Me, I’m a huge fan of what the maniacs behind the open source Bloodhound SSC project are trying to do. Powered by the engine from a Eurofighter Typhoon, they’re aiming to make a land-going car that can reach an unfathomable 1,000 mph.
Nobody has ever topped the Thrust SSC’s 1997 record of 763 mph, but I think it’s high time that changes. Maybe it will someday.
