Volvo's new trucks are so easy to drive, a hamster could do it! No, really. Volvo Trucks built a makeshift hamster wheel onto the tiller of one of its rigs, and using nothing but the orange-y allure of a carrot, a hamster steered a 15-ton truck all the way up a quarry, with sheer cliffs off each side. Holy crap.
You just know it's going to be trouble right from the beginning, when the extremely Swedish engineer says in an extremely Swedish accent:
Today is the ultimate test of the steering system. You vill see a hahmsturr steering a truck from the bottom of thees quarry to the top.
Yeah. He just says it like "of course we do this, with every truck we test. A hamster drives it. Obviously." A man then proceeds to smack on the steering wheel, you know, just to make sure it's on, or something.
The hahmsturr cannot look out the window.
Really.
We will have the driver, Seon, guide the hahmsturr with a carrot.
You gotta be kidding me.
And then, after all that... well, you'll just have to watch to find out. But why the hell are we fooling around with computer-controlled cars? We could have hamster-controlled cars!
And that, my friends, is just so much better.
