As we've seen, using paint schemes to honor cars of the past is a hit-or-miss proposition. As such, slapping the Ferrari 512 Boxer's famed red-and-black on a new 458 Italia just doesn't land. The lines are too intricate, and the effect is jarring.
I'm not a Ferrari nerd, although the Berlinetta Boxer indeed occupies a spotlit corner of my Fantasy Garage. And to be fair, this painted 458 isn't entirely a 512 BB knockoff — note the off-script black roof. Still, the negative space in those dark parts have a reductive effect on the 458's already controversial styling, giving it the appearance of a jigsaw puzzle with pieces removed. That or the aftermath of a dust-up with a light pole.
