After a two year stint, organizer and team owner Roger Penske announced today the Detroit Grand Prix will be canceled for 2009.

This is just the latest in a string of bad news for racing since manufacturers and advertisers are contracting in expectation of a treacherous 2009. We're not going to candy-coat our disappointment at the prospect of losing high profile racing in our backyard, but that just opens up a weekend that LeMons could consider running on Belle Isle.
