Rapper DMX was arrested on Wednesday stemming from a speeding incident in January on Arizona's Loop 101. Normally, a celebrity caught speeding wouldn't merit much in the way of newsworthiness but this story has a few interesting details. First, DMX was arrested and charged with multiple crimes including speeding, reckless driving, endangerment and driving on a suspended license. Second, he was driving more than 114 mph at one point when recorded by cameras. Third, he was in a 1966 Chevy Nova II. A Yellow 1966 Chevy Nova II. And how did they ever deduce that it was DMX driving? Other than the images of DMX driving the car, there was one other little giveaway.
it seems that DMX likes people to know which yellow Chevy Nova II is his, so he had "DMX" put on his front windshield in big yellow letters. Or maybe it was because he'd always go into parking lots, and forget which yellow Nova II was his. No word on who the female in the car is, but we're presuming she was a bit disappointed that DMX didn't show up in a Lamborghini. [AP via Fox News, TMZ]

Who can resist a P***y Magnet Yellow car? That's Hot!
It's Chevy II Nova instead of Chevy Nova II - Nova was a subseries in the Chevy II line.
@tonyola: Word.
Year One did a bitchin' custom a few years ago with a fiberglass '67 kit body and a 572 crate. I'm still hard for it. Hard as in erect, like I want to make sweet, sweet love to it. I wanna fuck it.
Oh yeah.
@Morphine: You'll have to fight the dragons for it, unless you don't mind their hand-me-downs.
@tonyola: Technically, yes. But we tend to go with the common usage in reporting. It's a tough call sometimes.
i thought rappers were all about ridin' slow...
and if it's so obvious this was him, why did it take them 4 months to arrest him?
trogdorrrr! the dragonator
Does anyone else think it's sad these cameras are on the highway now? Around 465 here there is a camera every half mile now. They are just little dome cameras, can these get your plate? Also, does anyone know what the whiteish panel antenna looking things are they are putting up just as many of? If those are some sort of speed sensors that would suck! You should at least have a sporting chance if you decide to wind it out every once in awhile.
Wait, what, a rapper with wheels smaller than the pizza I had for dinner? Does not compute.
I think I'll approve, once my brain catches up with what's going on.
The DMX on the windshield is classic, even funnier than 'C A M A R O' written in mailbox letters.
@Morphine: No, please, tell us how youreally feel. Sad state of affairs for yesterdays rappers, though, really. Didnt he have them reverse trike Raptors in one of his videos?
C'mon, look at what the time says in the pic. He obviously had to have her home by 8:30....
Girl's Father: "DMX, you said you'd have my daughter home on time."
DMX: "Arf! Arf! Talk is cheap Mothafucka!"
I thought the ladies LOVED novas, didn't anybody see DeathProof?
In the words of the "yay-area" rapper, E-40:
"SPEEEEEDINGGGG"
quickly followed by "Slowww Down!"
Who cares, the Nova is cool and all but DMX is a total scumbag. He's currently under investigation - once again, I think - for alleged involvement in a dogfighting ring. He doesn't deserve this much of our time.
I guess we all made him lose his mind . . . .
Up in there,
Up in there . . . .
:-(
Wow, this is even more surreal than anything ever dreamed up by VH1.
I have a lot more respect for DMX now.
@LotusGrrl: i'm going to be driving around most of the Indy on 465 tomorrow... (later today... whatever) i'll have to keep an eye out for those... haven't noticed them in the past...
though i don't mind a bit more speed control on 465... i think the whole indianapolis mindset of "big concrete ring meant for cars---- RACETRACK!" is a bit excessive... yes... i've done my share of speeding around it... but when avg. traffic is moving at 70+ when posted speed is 55... i think that's a bit much...
i also drive a tiny little car that doesn't like to go much over 65.. so SUVs buzzing past and changing lanes randomly w/no signals tend to bother me a lot
Why can't he claim that's not him driving in the photos? They seem blurry enough to me.
@LotusGrrl: I'm still waiting to see a first-gen Saturn VUE with a POWERED BY HONDA sticker across the top of the windshield.
pussy magnet yellow FTW!!! it looks like its working too since there is a lady in the car.
But damn there are speed cameras now in the US? i didnt know that. Where else?
better slow while driving through AZ
That's not your typical rapper ride for sure!
I'm shocked by this display of almost good taste from a rapper...
As he said " A lot rappers play tough, but a lot of em bluff, but not me cause I'm a player, that gets out of them cuffs"
Let's hope for him he meant that.
Soon, expect to see a whole rash of celebutards with their stage/screen names plastered across the windshield.
Prince must be glad he went back to being a human instead of an unknown algebra symbol!
I can't wait to see the Popemobile with a giant vinyl "Ratzinger - < woot woot!" prominently displayed.
R*dar Magnet Yellow?
I think they should follow Aussie rules and confiscate the Nova...and give it to me. I would never wind it out like that--in front of a camera, I mean.
Gee, most "celebrities" usually like to dive around anonymously, but not this guy. He has to have "D M X" in huge yellow letters on his windshield to scream "YO, I is ova hear y'all!"
This guy shouldn't be allowed to ride a bike...

I guess they caught him ridin' dirty.
Wouldn't he make a good Secretary of Transportation?
Arizona? DMX has a house near where I live in NY, though it seems he's never there. All the cars in the driveway are pieces of crap too, the town actually forced him to get many of them off his front lawn because they got so many complaints. His house is also a very ugly electric blue color and everyone knows it's the ugliest house in the area.
Next we'll see Xzibit "Pimpin His Hoes" down in an undercover sting op.
Didn't know a Nova could go that fast.
Chevy Síva?
It's a good thing he's wearing his seatbelt, since we all know speed kills. For a minute there I thought he was doing something stupid.
dang, talk about actin' a fool.
up in here x 2
Whats with the rear wheel openings? Looks wierd
@beluga: Ya'll gonna make me go all out, up in here, up in here
dmx has many cool 60s-70s american cars at his home in AZ. he's also got more moving violations on his record than...something with a lot of moving violations.
Ride or Die!
Didn't DMX get busted a few years back for impersonating a cop?
He tried to confiscate someone's car at the airport or somthing claiming he was an FBI agent I thought? He basically carjacked someone.
He's appearantly not a stable type of guy. Cool car though, minus the rediculous self promoting sticker of course.
Y'd think a big star could afford the SS hardtop instead of a base post sedan, f'shizzle.
Even if you're ridin' dirty, ride in style.
DMX is totally insane. Yeah he was arrested for carjacking in airport parking lot. This is right after he made a million plus from one of the jet lee movies he was in. He's been arrested for smoking crack multiple times as well. But he does love his cars.
@LotusGrrl: The INDOT site says that these cameras are for traffic density monitoring only, and they aren't detailed enough to pick up plates for ticketing. I tend to believe them, since you can see what traffic looks like here. I haven't figured out what the little flat panels are yet, but they're sure putting up a lot of 'em!
Arizona is a scummy state for tickets (and overall too in my opinion, but others may like it so that is neither here nor there).
The interstate has a posted speed of 75, and at 85 or more, they can, if they want, tag you with the felony charge of excessive speed and send you to jail. Most states rely on the 25 over the speedlimit rule before making it excessive speed and applying harsher penalties.
I guess they have to slow people down so they can't leave so quickly.
It appears as if Mr. Earl Simmons, AKA DMX, has had a few other driving-related snafus in the last several years according to the all-knowing Wikipedia.
[en.wikipedia.org]
Also, I think instead of having "DMX" on his windshield, he should've put "Earl Simmons." A much better ring to it, don't you think?
I like that there appears to be a bright camera flash on each of these... but he kept going after at least 5? That's a commitment.
Bubb Rubb was unavailable for comment.
He would not have this problem driving the Naturmobile Hybrid that uses real Horsepower!
did they catch him ridin' dirty?
Speeding? This is news? I expect more from today's celebrities if they want to upset me.
Didn't know a Nova could go that fast.
with a decent small block, that speed is the warm-up lap LOL
@LotusGrrl: I think it's very sad that these cameras are on the highway now. CHP/State Troopers have been turned into nothing more than privateers/highwaymen to state general funds in recent years, and now cities and states have got the damn robots enforcing their mis-guided, dangerous (but highly lucrative)speed laws. This will not stand man, this aggression will not stand!
Also, let me express my gratitude to my fellow Jalops. If and when this blurb appears on Autoblog, it will be full of nothing except kowtowing expressions of outrage at the very idea of using a car to travel quickly and safely on an empty highway in the middle of the night. No one will say anything about how bitchin' that Nova is... and it is bitchin'.
@FreeMan: I *want* to believe them, but I'm still suspicious. I wonder how Fox59 gets their traffic speed info?
@bruxell: Quickly? That's about as big an understatement as you can make. The photos show him going 100 and 114 in a 65 zone. Safely? I'm not sure about that - the car's 42-year-old American iron. (Maybe he upgraded the suspension and brakes.) Empty? Don't you see the other cars in some of the photos? Middle of the night? The time stamp on the photos is 8:2x PM.
@Hyman Decent: Admittedly there are some cars on the road, but no, I don't consider 114 on an open highway to be an obscenely high speed. It's not as if people in different parts of the world haven't made speeds like this work for many years; and before you start on some diatribe about Germany being a very different place, keep in mind that Montana isn't. every year that Montana had no set speed limit on highways the fatality rate on those highways went down, now that they have limits again, the rate is on the climb. The 65 zone is artificiality, the car is perfectly capable of that, and as for the traffic, well, LA never sports freeways that deserted, so maybe my perspective is skewed.
They're our roads, and our cars... and it's our money the state is taking for laws that have been brought into serious question by study after study as being dangerous and wasteful. If you think that camera is about anything other than money, think again.
I have done 60mph on an on ramp that was posted at 30mph...the tire was rubbing the fender but...er maybe they do know what they are doing.
1967 damn kids
