Now, we understand there's still an ongoing debate on the coolness of flat black paint jobs, but let's raise the question again. This time, we've got a certain Ferrari F430 Scuderia weighing in on the matter. We thought the Scuderia was a vast improvement over the styling of the standard F430, but this non-glossy example takes it to a whole new level. In the process it loses the tacky racing stripes, too. It looks like something that took a wrong turn off of the Fiorano circuit during a secret testing session. But do you think it would've looked better in a normal gloss black?

Edit: Ok, so it turns out this isn't a paint job, but a slickly-executed vinyl wrap. Hat Tip to Jamieson!

SUPER FINGERPRINT POTENTIAL!
Simply beautiful, but I shudder to think how much that paintjob must have cost.
I think that the paint treatment (or lack thereof) increases the badass factor.
I never thought anything would replace Megan Fox at the top of my "DO WANT" list. Sorry sweety, you just hit #2, but I'm a considerate guy, I'll let you drive it.... once.
I am a fan of the flat, and with the brushed metallic rims, headlight pods, etc... I think it works very well.
Not to mention the whole "What super car would Satan drive" factor of it all. Come to think of it, where are the pentagram rims...?
I want to see primer gray. Primer is #1. In romance languages, literally.
Primer isn't paint, it's prep.
Automotive perfection.
@vr6john: exactly...
wasnt the one of the Batmobiles black?
Enough said
Is there any car that looks worse in satin black?
@Mad_Science: why would a matte finish attract more fingerprints*? If you print photos on glossy & matte paper, fingerprints show more on the glossy paper.
* Other than the fact that it would draw more looks and caresses from passers by.
maybe if we painted megan fox in flat black too....that is so much hotter, the black than the normal red....satan be damned

It's scared of tatas on the matte finish* Vanquish 'cross the street.
sorry, "...cajones..."
* not Finnish**

@StimulusCheckAsh:
How about Flat Blue?
Looks very cool. A rare example of a Ferrari customer showing some taste in their customization.
I would prefer a stock color but it's ok. The rims are weak though something like this is better:
@Red AuerБЯд╒╒: Oddly enough, it looks like an unpainted plastic model.
The F430 is just a fairly boring looking car to me (as far as exotics go), so the matte black doesn't do much for me.
A CTS-V on the other hand would look awesome!
or these
looks the dogs bollox, want big time!
I approve of a guy rich enough to own it, but down-to-earth enough to park it at the curb.
Matte finish is easy. I've got some 600-grit right here.
Not only is it exponentially more evil looking than ANY gloss paint job, keeping it pretty is probably much easier, too.
The only reason that this car should be painted flat black is if someone put an Enzo or 599 engine in it in their garage/driveway. Flat black SHOULD say: "I've hot rodded the hell out of this car, but I don't really give a damn about how it looks, just how fast it goes."
The flat balck should be applied with rattle cans too.
@Red AuerБЯд╒╒: How about Flat Blue?
I'll be in my bunk.
Eh, it's not bad.
Sweet Jesus.
I wish those were bigger and without a watermark, cause I'd have found my new wallpaper.
I am partial to arguments that go something like "only rods on a budget should be primer-colored," but this thing makes me hyperventilate, so badly do I want it. That car looks so right and takes flat-black into a new aesthetic, pointing to high-tech stealthy airplanes (without turning the dial up to Reventon) instead of low-tech autos. Future, not past.
Brilliant!!, uuhmpf matte
I'm with the majority on this one. I like it. I'm not a huge fan of newer Ferraris, but this works.
That isnt an F430. Thats a 430 Scuderia
My first thought was how much I liked the look of the mesh in the big air intakes. Normally, I HATE the look of mesh (like on the current Caddilacs) but I thought the F430 looked weird with those great big gaping holes in the front. huh...it works. And I'm a fan of anyone that has a Ferrari that's not red.
I think satin black looks great on hot rods, especially with some nice contrasting orange Von Dutch style striping. And I think satin black is good for hyper-expensive cars also, if they're going to be driven in an urban setting. However, I like to imagine myself piloting a car like this through the horseshoe curves of PCH (that's California Highway 1 - not eternal garage torment) for which I think a high gloss shimmering red paint job is more appropriate.
I don't care if fitty-cent thinks a matte finish paint job (on his G8 of course) is the bee's knees.
I love the way the light dances upon it, revealing intricacies to the bodylines all too often hidden by a freaking retina-killing reflection.
Plus, it just looks super bad ass.
Satin black is the new black. Murdered out, son!
That is f***ing boss.
Reminds me of the summer I spent in Italy. It was 1998, and being 100 years since Enzo Ferrari's birth, a local Ferrari club was doing some sort of meet or tour or something in Verona to commemorate the occasion. (I'm sketchy on the details, but bear with me. I drank a lot that summer, and the memory she ain't what she usta be.)
Anyway what I remember with utter clarity was the sight and sounds of dozens upon dozens of Ferraris, all types and vintages, just tearing down the Corso en masse. The snick-snick-snick of the trannies downshifting and the frantic, gutteral little "zzzzing-r-r-r-r" as the driver blipped the throttle. I still drool a little at the memory.
All of the red showing through at the front makes it look like an Earl Scheib $99 special. I would think that if you had the money for the car, you would have the money to have it painted correctly. Or better yet, pay the factory to do it for you when you order the car.
That being said, I always wanted a robin's egg blue matte finish on a Ferrari. I guess I better get back to work so that I can try to realize the dream.
Yeah, I like it. Definitely carries a "bad ass" look and you can spend that time you would normally be in the driveway waxing, out driving.
@ernmoran: All of the red showing through
I had to go back and look, but you are right... Totally ruins it!
I've seen a lot of Ferraris with matte black finish, but not all of them are painted. A lot of owners choose to cover the car in a foil. A quality job will look like the car is painted matte black and it will protect the real paint underneath, yet is totally reversible at any time. I recall seeing a red F430 undergoing the process on Ferrarichat and it was pretty cool - really makes me want to do it to my car.
Flat paint means srs bzns
@P161911: Mister P161911? Your car is ready:

I'm bummed cause right before this flat black craze I decided that i'd get my next car painted that color. Now, it's too overdone. even on one of my favorite cars, it still disappoints.

You have to be two steps ahead of the next trend... I am already getting my car prepped for its True Religion Denim interior.
@Elhigh: That's one of the coolest things about Swiss car culture; you see gear like that parked on the street in almost every city.
Can I ask, why do so many people do somersaults over these matt / satin paint treatments (or vinyl wraps as the case may be)? I personally think they look horrendous.
Incidentally, I think Ferrari has jumped the shark when it comes to the styling of their mid-engined cars. The F355 was the last pretty one, even if they do look a bit home-made when you meet them in person.
Ferraris always look better in black than they do in yellow or white, even if the matte finish is less desireable than a proper gloss.
That said, I'll take the Scuderia in red, please.
@Unevolved: Whoop!: here is a un-watermarked version...If you download, it's a 500k file @ 1200px wide...hope that works for you...I cut the width in half here for posting...
From the people i've met at the track, the paint and color of the cars goes a long way to describe the owner. These paint jobs usually signify people that are gearheads, vs the shiny red cars owned by people who see them simply as status symbols.
