Hummer Scooter Concept Makes Trucks Look Silly

When we saw the official press shots of Hummer's new H3T the first thing we noticed was the presence of the ubiquitous - well in the world of truck press shots that is - dirt bike in the back. We understand why they put the bike in there, it's to highlight the utility of the vehicle and to draw parallels between the ability and sexiness of the dirt bike and the truck it's placed in, but we can't help but feel it does the opposite. With its fuel economy, mud-plugging ability, cost and practicality, the bike just makes the truck look effeminate and silly. Enter this Hummer scooter concept from Oberdan Bezzi. With a 450cc engine, it's probably every bit as fast as the H3 and just as capable off-road. In fact, it's probably a more practical vehicle all round, but will that matter to potential H3T buyers? Not a bit. [Via Scooter Design]

  • Maybe it is there just to make Hummer Cafe compliant as a brand.

Not practical if you need a truck... Wes

  • Huh. I think the Hummer styling looks pretty good on that thing.

The question that is nagging me is, what were they drinking/smoking when they thought this one up? And how much does it cost per ounce?

  • Also, Hummer doesn't need any help to look silly. It accomplishes that feat astoundingly well on its own merits-or lack there of.

  • @danio3834: Neither is the Hummer? The only people that really need a truck are contractors etc, and most of them would be better off with a Mercedes Sprinter van.

Use a big scooter like this for your day-to-day for a week and I challenge you to tell me it's not more practical. I had a T-Max 500 for a while in London, it did 120mph, fit a week's worth of shopping, I could park it anywhere and never once had to sit in traffic. Weekly fuel costs, in London mind you, were about 5 pounds and the yearly insurance was 250.

  • I knew hummer was downsizing with each new model...but I thought there would be at least an H6 before they went this small

Does it have all the requirements to be called HUMMER???? Dorky-YES
    Useless-YES
    Gas Guzzling-Oops!

  • Hmmm....I already have the H2 AND the H3...how can I possibly look MORE like a douchebag????

  • Riding a scooter is much like having a fat chick.

Sure it may be fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to see you with it.

  • How much does the Hummer scooter tip the scales at? My guess...
    1200lbs

  • @TexanIdiot25: Or ON it....

  • i think the hummer truck is for someone who is gay but are trying desperately to prove otherwise, the scooter is for people who aren't

  • I remember when hummer used to mean blowjob. Now it just means sucky.

  • Image of Novaload Novaload at 04:41 PM on 01/29/08 *

This is what they should have been making all along. A scooter, an ATV and maybe a jetski type.

  • Coincidentally, just like SUV looking vehicles that never go off-road are popular with car buyers, off-road looking motorcycles that never go off-road, in the form of adventure tourers and supermoto bikes, are becoming very popular with motorcyclists.

  • @GreenVanMan: Beat me to it.

  • Image of danio3834 danio3834 at 05:07 PM on 01/29/08 *

@Wes Siler: Sure, assuming that the H3 buyer would only use said vehicle in urban areas as a commuter, the scooter would be more practical in every way.

But people who buy H3s justify their purchase in one way or another and likely use its capabilty at some point if not frequently.

Its wrong to assume the stereotype that all Hummer owners only use their vehicles as single person commuters, just as it would be wrong to assume that all Ferrari owners use their cars on a race track.

  • Image of danio3834 danio3834 at 05:08 PM on 01/29/08 *

I say buy both, put the scooter in the back, (which im sure it fits perfectly), THEN, you have the perfect mix of practicality, whatever your endeavor.

  • How does the Eminem song go?

I'm looking for a girl I can f**k in the back of my Hummer SCOOTER?!

No, won't catch on. Hummer drivers want to be seen in their trucks, scooter riders are afraid someone will see them on their scooter. Lets face it unless your riding a Vespa, people assume you're just a drunk.

  • I'm calling fake. First off, where would you put your feet? Secondly, a 450cc engine is ridiculous for a vehicle of it's purported size, I don't even think it could fit anywhere on that tiny frame unless it's 100% custom - which I'm doubting GM would do.

  • Ouch, guys! As a scooter owner, you are killing me here. That HUMMER scoot is pretty close in design to a Honda model, the Big Ruckus that was very popular, although overpriced and since discontinued.

I can tell you that my Yamaha Morphous, (Google it) is a stylish yet practical rig that gets 70 mpg, positive coments from everybody that sees it and is as good a commuter as anyone can ask for.

As for the HUMMER designed scoot, it it was available for sale and got folks out of their 12mpg rigs and into the open air and onto 2 wheels, I say bring it on! ANd I'd bet that if it ever shows itself, it will be just 250cc. That's plenty for nearly everyone and hits a pricepoint that people might pay.

  • @ clank-o-tron- like many scooters out there, my Morphous included, your feet fit on running boards outboard of the center stack that contains the top of the engine and/or the fuel tank. And as I already mentioned, a 250cc engine works very well in that layout.

  • @clank-o-tron: Can you say "satire"? I can't be only one here who realizes that this is a spoof, can I? (no I don't read Italian, it's just pretty obvious from the pic)

  • @clank-o-tron: Well, so far it's just a sketch and has nothing to do with GM other than branding.

    Good call on that "fake."

  • Oh my god. Thank you guys. You just saved me from handing over $1,000,000 to some guy in Nigeria who wanted to sell me one of these.

Also, a 450cc engine would totally fit in a bike that size. Scooter engines sit on the rear swing arm and are very compact.

  • The windshield is too tall. It needs that chopped look.

  • Acutally, as a long-time motorcycle guy, who can't (well, shouldn't) ride anymore, the scooter, to me, is still an option when fuel gets to be $7/gallon. Acutally, I'd find me an '86 Honda CT110, dual-range transmission, 12V electrics and all.

My wife had a Helix, an '86, for a while, and that thing was really kind fun. Odd on small tires, after becoming accustomed to normal-sized hoops, but still, any bike which can carry a short-weekend's stuff in it's 'trunk', works for me.

After she'd been hit by an idiot in a car, I stripped the mangled body work off it and drove it to work for a few days, to see if anything truly 'bad' had happened to it. Bent wheel, that's it...and it looked like a Mad Max refugee. People stayed away from me....

  • ROFL-MAO! Brilliant concept! Wish I had thought of that. CIAO!

  • Image of Rust-MyEnemy Rust-MyEnemy at 07:56 PM on 01/29/08 *

I wouldn't go as far as calling it a fake, it's just a drawing that some dude has done. Has nothing to do ith GM, but is showing that somebody in the world somewhere is thinking outside the box.

Now, a really rad idea would be for Hummer to make a decent truck, not a stupid bloody Lego / Tonka hybrid that Land Rover Defender owners howl with laughter at on sight.

  • @danio3834: What do you call a Hummer owner who goes off-roading?

    An off-roading douchebag.

  • @ Everyone: Maybe 'fake' was the wrong word (depends on the intent), but people were talking about it like it was on a showroom floor already. Perhaps my USB Sarcasm detector isn't working.

@NatefromOgden: Looking from the way the area below the seat bows out, those would have to be some huge running boards. I have no doubts that a 250cc engine works fine, but what about an engine with double the displacement?

@skaz: I seem to recall a certain Camaro sketch from a year or two back that had little more than a design and a logo to go on, and it fooled a lot of major media outlets.

  • @TexanIdiot25: you can keep your "friends."

  • Image of danio3834 danio3834 at 08:38 PM on 01/29/08 *

@velocecrat: 450cc is prolly just enough to do a burnout on your face, douche.

    @camp6ell: = loves fat chix

  • Isn't this just a knockoff of the Yamaha C3?

  • Forgot the pic...

  • I love the C3.

  • Let's see if GM has a sense of humor about it or goes after the artist for trademark violation, even though no one is really profiting from the spoof. (I'm guessing not many here followed the link... there are a a number of other cleverly drawn parody concepts, several "Superbike" inspired scooters... and you don't have to understand Italian to appreciate them.)

  • More of a cross between the Ruckus and the C3

  • I was going to call 'wind-up', given that the scooter's engine moves with the back wheel, thus making its life expectancy on unmetalled roads about the same as that of a snowball in hell.

On the other hand, the Suzuki Burgman is now up to 640cc, and Gilera have already shown (though not yet put on sale) an 800cc scooter, so who knows what is around the corner?

  • @NatefromOgden: Beat me to it. The Big Ruckus is a pretty neat looking ride. You can't take it off road - 250cc won't get you far; when the going gets soft those horsepowers sit down and look at you with an expression that says, "No, you're mistaken." But for the urban poseur who likes the naked bike look, it's right up there.

  • @danio3834: I wonder, does one get a Suburban because he's angry, or just become angry after driving a Suburban?

  • @TexanIdiot25:

Spoken like a true Texan idiot!!!

  • Have ridden the BIG RUCKUS for two years,
now. Gets 70mpg if I keep it under 60mph.
Does 80mph with two people on board.

Has an alternator that's the same size as
    a Harley Ultra-Classic. (I had one, I know)

    I've modified mine radically.
380 watt sound system includes 4 speakers
    and dual coil sub-woofer.
Lighting includes HID driving lights and
    halogen fog lights.
Dual battery charging system to handle the
    accessories.

  • I really like these, my first bike was a Honda CT70 trail bike and these are lot more comfortable on a bumpy train than those "nutcrusher" dirt bikes with the skinny plastic seats and high center of gravity. Street legal bikes that can go offroad are really handy for the person who doesn't have a trailer, hell this thing would fit in even a small pickup bed.
