BYD Motors ("Build Your Dreams") made news today at the auto show when they announced a ferrous battery-powered dual mode hybrid. This battery is big news as it has no heavy metals, is recyclable and should provide a 10-minute fast charge at special charging stations. The plug-in hybrid will be a version of their F6 (Honda Accord) sedan, the F6DM. And while this
Honda Accord F6DM may not reach American shores anytime soon, this PHEV will see the light of day in China later this year. The system should achieve a range of 267 miles, including 62 miles in all electric mode. And how are they with batteries? BYD is the largest producer of rechargeable batteries in the world (you may have one in your cell phone now).

This is actually one of the best news stories today. A totally recyclable, organic, battery for a Hybrid. And the company has been manufacturing reusable batteries for years (yes, on a much smaller scale.. I know)
Holy shit, Toyota Camry steering wheel!
62 miles in all-electric mode is an impressive figure, but a 267 mile range overall? Are you sure that's right? Does this thing only carry a few gallons of gasoline?
My dream is a road worthy car that sometimes requires a parachute to stop.

Hybrids should become a standard.
Their old logo was more... Teutonic:

Camry hybrid steering wheel, and last gen Accord dash. The Chinese rip off designs like mad.
While the car's design is obviously cribbed, on the bright side they cribbed from decent cars, so it gets Camry air vents and a Camry steering wheel, lol.
But more seriously, I think it's going to be a good advantage that they themselves are THE largest battery manufacturer...that will give them a massive cost advantage in hybrids (or electric vehicles actually), and the fact that they've used their R&D in rechargable batteries to come up with a more environmentally friendly battery that charges rapidly (and hopefully doesn't come with the explosive risks of Li-on) is pretty damned impressive.
And to be honest it's easier to hire italian firms to help make your stuff more original, than it is to make your cars mechanicals not suck.
I understand the car will cover the approximate 260 miles on only 5 gallons of gas and that it will also recharge the battery while driving at freeway speeds. Pretty impressive -- never mind how much it looks like a Honda. If the claims are true, I want one!!
I dont believe maryugo is here. I am upset now.
