Volkswagen needs a bit more luxury and, with the less than stellar performance by the Phaeton, you may be looking at it. Chris Doane, our intrepid photographer, managed to grab views from the floor of this new sleek coupe. Getting the jump on Ford, VW will be offering the Passat CC exclusively with direct injection engines "worldwide." That means the US will be getting a 200 horsepower 2.0 liter TSI and 280 horsepower V6 FSI. All of the V6's will be offered with full-time 4MOTION all-wheel drive as standard equipment.

Couldn't they make the talights a little bigger?
My first thought (when viewed from the side) was that it looked like a smoother version of an S60 that bred with a Chrysler Sebring. Not impressed. I loved the late '90's, early 00's Passats though.
Looks like the Audi A5. At least they finally lost that hideous face full of chrome covered plastic. Looks better. Definitely more upmarket. Tail lights are... noticeable. Will have to see it in the flesh, though. These photos look like there is a bit of spherical aberration in the lens.
Oh VW, how I miss your Teutonic angularity.
This looks like a Korean knockoff of the Peugeot 607. And no, that's not a compliment.
i like it and all.. but it looks like someone ate a camry for lunch...
Why doesn't Volkswagen learn that people don't buy expensive VWs? Do they forget sometimes that they own Audi?!
Can someone *please* explain "four-door coupe" to me?
@Zandr:
Some guy in the marketing department decided it sounded "sportier" than sedan. Same as using "crossover utility vehicle" instead of station wagon.
@Zandr:
It's essentially a 2+2 coupe with doors to access the rear seats so that your kids don't have to climb over the front ones.
I'll never understand a world where a 4-door coupe with barely enough rear-seat headroom for Danny DeVito is considered more marketable than the same car with the same roofline and two doors.
Wait, so VW keeps the Scirocco for Europe and gives us this? Um, thanks...
@drewdraws2: It's the 2015 Hyundai Genesis! This time with a Mercedes CL coupe front, CLS side. Just take of the badge, slap on a weird grill and there you go.
@Zandr: Rover built one in the '60s and early '70s based off the P5. It was like the saloon, but with a lower, sleeker roofline. I don't think there was another one until Mercedes-Benz invented the CLS.
Where are our pictures of the door hinges, Matt?
I second the Peugeot comment. The Passat before the current one fell into the "just right" category; what happened?
@SebringMGB: I'm in the middle of a massage.
It's pretty, but does VW need ANOTHER model? Course, I said the same thing about the CLS and the GLK...
@akn: Audi/BMW/VW always seem to hold the best stuff close, and send the States shite. Only after they have had something in Europe for a year or two will they consider sending it this way. If we are lucky.
Of course Ford seems to treat us that way too, and they are FROM here.
@Zandr: Well, technically a coupé is a body style that's not door dependent. The French word for "cut", it originally was used to describe anything with a rear deck that finished in a straight line from the roof (what we'd describe as a fastback). However, because we Americans have bastardized that into coupe, meaning a two-door car, now we have this confused new moniker of four-door coupe (or four-door two-door). We should just put the damn e-acute (the accent over the "e") back and the whole thing makes sense again.
Passat Sedan Coupé anyone?
@drewdraws2: I vote yes. And i didnt think the 407/607 looked that bad anyway. Ok, perhaps they're not strying, but more attractive than an impala or your average econo-box.
A+ for moving away from the big-mouth-bass grille.
F for trying to fool me with the 'CC' moniker. I was thinking Coupe-Convertible and was excited. Then I saw 4 doors and was really excited. Then I realized it was a VAG CLS and was sorely disappointed.
Now we're talking Fahrwegnugen. Mmm-mmm: finally, A VW I could sleep with. Ahhhh
