The spy shooters of KGP have snagged us one heckuva get — these are the best shots to date of the 2009 Chevy Camaro caught on a car trailer — including the very first interior shots we've yet seen. We'll have all the shots up in a moment, but we've got the full spy report below the jump. UPDATE: All the photos added below. Looks like the interior's remaining true to the concept interior and one thing's for sure about the exterior — it's certainly got big tires and as we saw earlier — a B-pillar. And these pictures show us a much more clear look at the deisgn integration than the first Camaro spy photos we shared with you last month — or better than the sneaky Camaro camera-phone shot.
UPDATE #2: Apparently we got Bob Lutz so upset by posting these spy photos he's decided "to heck with it" and he's pulling the covers off all of the Chevy Camaro testers. Who knew we could have such an impact?
One of our European operatives caught this full stable of high- performance Holden test cars—including the new Camaro—between Denmark and Sweden, en route to the frigid arctic circle testing grounds. The encounter provided the best, most detailed look at the Camaro, including the first shots of the car's interior. As with the exterior, the production Camaro's interior will remain
true to the concept in its overall look and feel. The largest change
between the concept and production versions is found on this
prototype's center stack, which has an attractive stereo interface
that was missing on the show car. The four small analog gages still
reside in front of the gear shift lever, and the old-school
instrumentation pods have survived the productionizing process largely
unscathed. A band of color-keyed trim runs along the dash face, and
flares out into the door panels, providing some welcome character and
further linking the production Camaro with the concept that has been
only teasing us for far too long now.Our close-up look reveals that these Camaro prototypes were outfitted
with 20-inch wheels, and were shod with 245/45 ZR20 Pirello P Zero
tires.

Forget the Camaro...I want the Holden Ute!
Awesome!

Is it me, or does that pudgy steering wheel look really odd. As with most GM center consoles, it reminds me of a grey version of my daughters' Fisher Price Tape Recorder.
Why is Johnny 5s' head mounted upside down in the console?
@Rust-MyEnemy: No disassemble!
Los Locos kick your ass! Los Locos kick your face! Los Locos kick your balls Into Outer Spaaaaaaaaaaaace!
Fugly console!
@Dr.Danger: I am standing here beside myself.
Mmmm....gray plastic everywhere. Delicious.
OMG! That instrument cluster is fugly. And why did the y steal the seats out of a Malibu?
In the picture taken to the left of the steering wheel, the dial to the left of the steering wheel looks like decidedly low grade (old school GM) plastic. I hope they fix that. Those dials in front of the shifter look pretty cool.
@TampaRon: Hell yeah, that's the story here. Why exactly was that ute doing cold weather testing? And did it have any modifications that differentiated it from the model sold in Australia?
I see they're copping the Nissan school of "gratuitously protruding gauges give us more opportunity to show off our space-age plastics!"
Very disjointed.
@Dr.Danger: Which is a point... is this GM getting their own back for Johnny dismantling an F-Body in the first Short Circuit?
The public need to know.
@SwatLax: Exactly, why do an interior comparable to an early nineties Grand Am in 2009? Just looks like cheap junk.
The interior made me throw up on my mouth. The stero/HVAC controlls look like an afterthough and all I could think fo when I saw the steering wheel was my grandfather's 2000 S10.
Two different sets of wheels. Wonder which one is the basic set, and which one is the optional, or handling set. The interior seems underwhelming, more like a base version (read the V-6 secretaries car) or the rental car version. As far as the seats, I would be surprised if they developed stand alone units for the Camaro, because it really isn't really going to reach the same production level as the Malibu or Impala, so GM is going to use as much production ready components as possible. I'm disappointed with the Steering Column ignition switch. Should be on the Dash Board somewhere.
Yay, once again, retro designers meet the accountants!
I smell a sitcom!
I agree with the fugly interior. Looks very very cheap.
Plastic Formers! Less than meets the eye!
The interior is, of course, all pre-production, hopefully all the things that you find so offensive will be sorted out. Also, I would not be surprised if this was an intentional leak for GM to get some feedback about their interior design. It would be horrible to see GM's interiors backslide, especially in the new Camaro, after their recent progress.
That gear changer looks, um, kinky.
wow, that's ug-ly!
I can forgive bad interiors on muscle cars. I mean, I've driven several muscle cars from the 60s and not one of them had a decent interior. I'm sure the console is at least held on by more than two wood screws.
That's an improvement. I'll be happy as long as it's cheap & quick.
Why couldn't GM hire the same designers who did the exterior for the interior. The exterior design rocks, and the interior design...well...umm...hmm...I like the center console gauges.
Didn't Chrysler do the color match door plastic thing on the PT Cruiser?
Why is everyone getting so worked up about the interior? Aside from the gross (no pun intended) placement of the switchgear and meters, everything else is prototype quality without color or graining.
C'mon, Lutz is involved in this. I can't believe it won't be (much) higher quality, finish and materials at the end.
If anything, this shows us just how bad the interior of mid-90s Pontiacs were.
Notice the black electrical tape on the dash pods? Maybe the trim rings (which are light gray here) are replaceable to the color of the car... that like soooo 90's
@kingfling: I don't think anyone here actually believes this is exactly what we'll be seeing in the final production version. But the pictures are what we get to look at so its what we comment on.
What was it our moms used to say, if you can't say something nice, post it anonymously online...no wait, that wasn't it.
I don't particularly like the looks of this. It's just too disconjointed maybe?
I'm "pretty sure" the 2010 Mustang interior will be much nicer than this.
Looks like an early nineties Gran Prix puked in a good looking car.
It's so GrandAmmedly disappointing to see yet another tupperware tub-toy interior come out of GM, especially when they seem to be figuring out how to make cool stuff again.
Remember the yellow Aztek and it's "interrier" ???
Hmm. Maybe they're going for a retro look on the interior too.
Yes indeed,it's looks as though the dash of a Grand Am slept with a dash out of a 69 Camaro and this is it's offspring! F'n Bastard Child it is
Wow, white car with a laptop pedistal. The closest the Gen V has been to being a B4C yet!
like the gauge cluster in the middle of the center console
That's the ugliest steering wheel I've ever seen. And unfortunately, that is the one part of the car the driver sees the most.
I look at my guages and stereo more than my steering wheel.
Production doesn't start for another year, this is just a mock up version I would highly doubt this is the final product.
@94z28rag:
I agree, those seats are probably just pulled out of the GM Parts bin for testing, not for the final product. And the dash is a quickly thrown together one off, I have a feeling the real deal will be a higher quality, and will probably look a little more like...every other GM dash, the corporate stereo, buttons, knobs, etc.
Those Aux gauges are great, if your heads on a looong flexable stalk, like a swan?..
They would be alot better off along that long plastic panel up top.
i guess the "spy" photographer climbed up on the transporter and opened the door to get these "spy" shots, eh?.
BTW some old school muscle cars had great interiors
like my '69 R/T SE...
(another shameless plug from your new subscriber/commenter)
Happy New Year!
This looks terrible.
OMG! Somebody stole the clutch pedal!
I didn't like the concept interior and I like this even less... and yes I understand this is a pre-production mock-up. Seriously, give me a modern interior, not a stale pseudo-retro mash-up that'll please then ten buyers who've actually owned classic Camaro.
@Miscellanea:
"...actually owned >A< classic Camaro."
Yuck...back to the 70's! Uglier than even the last generation Camaro interior! And I thought that wasn't possible. Even a 240Z from the actual 70's has a better looking dashboard!
Someone needs to fire GM's interior designers, they just plain SUCK! What's next, GM? Gonna bring back the linear speedo that takes up the whole instrument panel, again?
You hear that, Maximum Bob? Hire someone from Audi, they know interiors. Even someone from Holden down under would do better.
That Camaro is butt fugly. The Dodge Challenger is going to kick ass. I predict the "New Camaro" will be out of the lineup within 4 years.
MAYBE WANT!
Yeah, that's looking a little rough right now, but at the same time, I'm looking at this as a retro-bodied GTO, which was noted as among the first GMs to have a decent interior. It's still a bit of an odd design, but I'd expect the plastics to get better. But, as Skaz said, as long as it's fast and cheap, I'm willing to overlook a lot.
@skaz: I'm with you. Dashboard aesthetics? Who f'n cares? I don't care if they are mismatched dials screwed right along the top of the dash and painted with radium. That's not the point! Or rather, it really is the point. The pretty stuff is under the hood.
Points for the attempt at 1st gen console mounted gauges, a bullet to the head for the remainder...unless they were trying to make the Mustang interior look Lexus like in comparison.
