Will MG Return to America?

Lots of questions on Jalopnik today. The latest one is regarding Britan's MG Rover, which could reenter the US market if a deal with Chinese automaker Shanghai Automotive goes through. AutoWeek is reporting today that the two companies are working toward a China-based joint venture that would handle MG Rover's engineering and design in exchange for an infusion of cash to aid the ailing carmaker. We're interested to see how this plays out. MG Rover has a solid sports-car marque that could easily be revived in the US, despite being away for more than a decade. MG could also serve as a wedge to bring Shanghai Auto into the sought-after US market. We can almost smell the English leather and burning oil already.
