The Dodge Challenger lags behind both the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang in sales and power. But if rumors are to be believed, that power problem will go away next week with a 640 horsepower Challenger Hellcat.

Chrysler was only expected to show off the new 200 in Detroit, but now rumors are cropping up left and right that they'll also add a sweet new engine to the Challenger. The mill is supposedly a 6.2 liter supercharged V8 that cranks out a mind numbing 640 horsepower. It also will supposedly be very expensive. Like $70,000 - $80,000 expensive.

There is a chance that it won't appear. SRT and Dodge don't have official press conferences at Detroit and the Challenger is also getting refreshed later this year, which means that it could end up debuting at the NY Auto Show in April.

Still, we'd rather see it in Detroit. Because that's sooner.

I'm normally unfairly anti-Mopar, but I think the Challenger is far and away the best looking of the Detroit Muscle Gang.
