Maybe more than anything else, the Scion FR-S, Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ trio are platforms: easy to buy, easy to strip, and very much rear-wheel drive. This has led to some rather audacious engine swaps.
It doesn't take long to see that most every kind of swap you can image has already been done to a Toyobaru of some kind. Straight fours, straight sixes, and V8s have been crammed between the frame rails the world over. I've even driven one! Er, stuffed one into the weeds.
Thanks Tony!
That car is actually pictured above — it's Tony Angelo's Formula Drift FR-S with a Toyota 2AZ inline four, nitrous shot and capable of something around 705 horsepower at the wheels. When I close my eyes, I can still hear it.
What swap is your favorite? There's a few NASCAR engines and twin-turbo V8s that spring to my mind, as well as one straight-six street car recently built by a certain New Hampshirite. Post the craziest you've seen below.
