Hopefully, if you’re reading Jalopnik, you love your car. Whether you drive a basic commuter sedan, a big truck or a sports car, a good car enthusiast should be enthusiastic about their ride. Last year I bought a 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS500 that I absolutely adore; it’s the newest car I’ve ever owned and definitely the most modern and high-end in terms of features, which has improved by life in numerous ways. But still — there’s a couple things about my car that really piss me off.

That’s what brought me to our question for the day: What’s the most annoying thing about your car? Even if your car is a 10/10 no notes dream machine, I’m sure there is something about it that annoys the hell out of you. It could be a design element, an ergonomic choice, a tech feature or aspect of the powertrain.

For me and my CLS, the problem occurs right when I open the door. The car has keyless entry and push-button start, both of which I’ve never had in my personal car before. Being able to just walk up to the car and pull on the handle with my keys in my pocket is awesome. But as soon as I open the door the warning chime goes off, with a message in the gauge cluster screen telling me not to forget my key. No matter how long the door stays open, even if my key is left inside the car, that loud-ass chime goes off. It’s annoying as hell.

I’ve looked through the car’s settings and owner’s manual and searched online forums, and apparently there is no way to turn it off that doesn’t require cutting a wire or doing other questionable modifications. So I just have to live with this annoying-ass chime every time I get in or out of the car.

Now, reader, it’s your turn. What’s the most annoying thing about your car? Hell, if you have to drive a different vehicle all the time for work I’ll take that as an example, too. Let me know what grinds your gears in the comments below and I’ll round up the best answers later this week.
