Nope. Bugeye Sprite. Introduced in 1958, Austin-Healey's Sprite was intended as a car "a chap could keep in his bicycle shed." It was indeed sprightly, along with being affordable and practical — and even went on to win races under privateer teams. It was the car underemployed young and country gentlemen alike needed at a pivotal moment in automotive enthusiasm. It was also the first volume sports car to use a partial monocoque, which added to its rigidity. It may not have sold by the millions, but it did lure plenty of Americans and Brits over to the sporting side.
