It would be a lie to say that no one had any idea the 2016 Ford GT was coming. It would be completely honest, however, to say we had no idea we’d be getting a wasp-waisted, gullwinged near-race car of the future that could put the retro-styled old one to shame.
And that’s something that sometimes happens with new cars when you see them for the first time. They completely blow your mind, and make you re-consider what was possible from an automaker before. This new GT has two big cannons for exahust pipes out the back, and it looks like it genuinely needs those flying buttresses just to keep the rear wheels attached. It’s almost as if Ford looked out how they designed the old GT, so that it was from 40 years in the past when it came out, and then said, “let’s go 40 years into the future with the next one.”
Then there’s the opposite, which is what looks like is happening with the new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. If you check the comments, they’re unenthused, to put it lightly. It’s typical, it’s unoriginal, it’s too evolutionary.
Then again, these first pictures are quick and dirty screencaps from a CNBC show, not representative of seeing one in the flesh, but when you see a car for the first time, it should make you feel something.
Which is what happens when you totally did not expect a car. So which car were you least expecting when it first came out? Let us know in the comments below!
