Modern turbocharging is all about smoothness of delivery, of hiding the fact that a turbocharged engine is turbocharged. What about the old school iterations of the tech?

If you find yourself behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo 4C, you’ll end up spending a bunch of time on the highway intentionally going from 3000 to 3100 rpm, just to hear the turbo spool whoosh.

But compared to real brutes in automotive turbocharging, the Alfa is positively refined. What car did you find had the most completely laggy, simple, hilarious turbo tech?
