"Welcome to Southwest, You Tranny Motherfuckers!"

Imagine you're an AirTran pilot. You might be nervous about your job, or Southwest's corporate culture. Then you might see this video, where you're promised instruction on how to roll a 400-pound granny down the jetway. Helloooo, new corporate overlords!

While I agree this has little business being on Jalopnik, it is pretty funny if you've flown on Southwest as much as I have. More so if you know a thing or two about the airline industry.

Southwest is known for having a kind of gitter done corporate culture that doesn't always fit well with the by-the-numbers, union-style operations of other airlines.

They taxi fast to get off the ground or into a gate expeditiously, hence the joke about full-down elevator to avoid accidentally taking off. They shave a few hundreds off the mach number to save gas during cruise, but they make up the time by handling 737s like F-18s down low, hence the airspeed jokes. They'll also use shorter runways at some airports that that other airlines won't use to get on the ground sooner rather than hold for a landing slot. Sometimes, although it is rare, you'll also see pilots helping out with things that would be the exclusive domain of ground agents or flight attendants at other airlines.

I'd guess this video was made by a AirTran pilot to highlight his colleagues' chagrin over the upcoming merger.
