'We Shall Share More Sprockets,' Says Your Host, Dieter: DCX DE, US to Work More Closely

Dieter Zetsche, the former Chrysler boss who took the reins at Mercedes once Schrempp had stuck one too many forks in himself, says the way to bring Benz back to profitability is to work more closely with Chrysler. While he claims he won't go as far as major component-sharing between the brands (we infer that to mean that Chrysler will continue to get Merc trickle-down, while there won't be much ChryCo trickle-up), Zetsche plans to use many of the low-cost manufacturing techniques that DCX's American brand picked up from the Japanese. Whether this cost-cutting includes German execs trading in their Hugo Boss suits for turtlenecks and black tights remains to be seen.
