The fine people of Cleveland erected the 5,078-foot-long Innerbelt bridge back in 1959. And on Saturday they blew it up.

Actually, they blew up most of it. Ohio's DOT plans to explode some more concrete piers and another steel span all the way through to the end of August. Here is video of Saturday morning's sweet, sweet destruction.

Computer modeling found that the bridge was structurally unsound back in 2008, and traffic was closed until 2010 for improvements. Apparently that wasn't enough, and one new bridge has already replaced the Innerbelt's function, with another replacement span planned for 2016.
