Australian bushfires are a force to be reckoned with, especially the 2015 Pinery bushfire that burned South Australia from November 25, 2015 to December 2, 2015. It was incredibly hot and fast-moving and the moment it overtakes firefighters, sowing chaos in its way, is terrifying.
In a dashcam video released earlier this week, we get a close up look at the firefighters attempting to control the blaze. They were en route to protect the town of Woolsheds on November 25 last year, local Australian news outlet 7News reported. The men never reached the town because a sudden change in wind caused the blaze to head straight for them at 90 kph (56 mph).
The footage is especially scary since the men couldn’t do anything but sit and wait for things to literally blow over. But because the fire was fueled by dry crops, it passed quickly and nobody was harmed, according to 7News.
Somebody buy these guys a beer. They’re the real heroes.
