Google is teaching its cars how to drive, and that hasn’t been without some drama. Here’s footage of one of their Lexus’ recent crashes with a city bus.
The crash took place in Google’s Mountain View home turf and is the first Google car crash where Google accepts full responsibility for what happened.
Read the full diagnosis of how the crash happened here on Gizmodo, but the short of it is that the Google car assumed traffic would slow down to let it out of the far right turning lane. That might have worked if another car had been involved and that didn’t exactly play out when a big, slow bus entered the equation.
As any parent will know, these sorts of crashes happen when you teach someone (or some program) how to drive on public roads. Still, it’s pretty satisfying to watch a robot fuck up.
