Watch A 1,000 HP Nissan GT-R Slay Its 21-Inch Tires

One of the most entertaining drivers in Japan over the past few years has been Kazuya Taguchi, an Up Garage employee (kind of like super Autozone) who also runs in Formula Drift. Now he’s come stateside in this 4.1-liter R35 Nissan GT-R, which makes more power than you’d ever need.


Man does this car shred. It has a Tomei 4.1-liter stroker kit and I’m not greatly surprised that builder Jerry Yang claims a thousand horsepower with 26 pounds of boost. Why the car runs 21s I do not know, but it has no problem roasting them.

Taguchi didn’t do great in the opening round of FD this year at Long Beach, and it’s easy to understand why once you watch this video from Hoonigan.

The team showed up to Hoonigan’s little front lot in Long Beach the day before FD to get Taguchi some of his first time behind the wheel of the car and to dial in its setup. That’s a incredibly short time frame to get used to a car, and I’m sure Taguchi will get more and more comfortable as the season goes on.

Here’s to hoping he can throw a good backie into the first turn at Atlanta soon.

When I drove trucks, I would clarify the size of the tires by the numbers BEFORE the rim size. For example, my 1996 Chevy had 31x10.50 R15s, so I said that the truck had “Thirty-ones” on it. I did NOT, however, say that the truck had 15” tires, as that -as we all know- is the size of the wheels/rims. If the same rule applies, the GT-R shredded the tires that were on 21 inch rims, but the tires are not 21 inches.

Has this rule changed?
