If you think Finland is just about cell phones and snowshoes, you've probably never heard of Alvar Aalto's barstools or Fiskars's scissors. The country's history as a center of industrial design reflects in the RaceAbout, a sports car — created by automotive production supplier, Valmet Automotive — that was designed and assembled by Finnish automotive engineering and design students.
The mid-engined sportster looks alternately at home with the Spykers and Koenigseggs of the supercar world, and as the toy surprise in a box of Frankenberry cereal, but features such high-tech construction components as an all-aluminum monocoque, honeycomb floor pan, stainless steel sub-frames and ultra-light carbon fiber panels. A 2.0 liter turbo four provides power, though the car, a conceptual prototype, will likely see more podiums than pavement.
