Toyota Celica GT-Four, Hercules W-2000, Ford F-250 IDI: The Dopest Cars I Found For Sale Online
A rotary-powered motorcycle, a rally car for the road, a diesel truck and more.
Another week means another entry into our series featuring the sweet cars I found for sale online. This time we have some rare imports, a woody wagon, a big diesel truck and more.
Based on reader feedback I'm making a change to this series. I'm now searching for interesting vehicles anywhere and everywhere on the internet, not just Facebook and Craigslist.
These vehicles may be hilariously unreliable, remarkably unusual, questionably tuned or just something that stops me in my tracks. We all know the used car market is all kinds of broken right now, but I try to find deals where they exist.
2013 Nissan 370Z - $13,110
I've been looking for a Nissan 370Z to feature since I started this series, but I've often found them to be far too expensive, or broken. Here's one for a reasonable price that appears to be in good shape.
This 370Z packs a 3.7-liter V6 under the hood making 332 horsepower and 270 lb-ft torque. That's bolted to a manual transmission and comes in a chassis noted for good responsiveness and handling.
It's $13,110 on CarGurus in Barrington, Illinois with 153,000 miles.
1959 Ford Taunus Kombi - $10,000
The Ford Taunus, not to be confused with Taurus, was Ford Germany's family car. These came in a bunch of different flavors and this one is a Taunus 17M Kombi, or wagon. The Taunus was aimed at the German middle class and looking at it, some American styling skipped across the Atlantic. It even has some tailfins.
Power comes from a 1.7-liter four making 59 HP transmitted through a three-speed manual. Contrary to the seller's note, Hagerty says that more than 11,000 of these made it into American hands.
It's $10,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Ottumwa, Iowa with 64,000 miles.
1993 Ford F-250 IDI
Old diesel trucks are often listed for ridiculous asking prices. Thankfully, there are some out there that are more on the reasonable end.
This 1993 Ford F-250 predates the Power Stroke engine, but under the hood is a 7.3-liter International indirect injection diesel. It's unclear if this one has a turbo or not. Without a turbo it makes 185 HP and 338 lb-ft torque. With a turbo it makes 190 HP and 388 lb-ft torque. Either way, this engine will probably outlast you.
This truck is also notable for being in the Midwest without rust. It comes with four-wheel-drive and a manual transmission, too. It's $8,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Rantoul, Illinois.
1983 Laverda RGS 1000 - $8,800
In 1949, Francesco Laverda started Moto Laverda. The motorcycle company got its start building small motorcycles and proving their durability by racing them. These machines raced in the Giro d'Talia, Motogito and Italian enduro championships.
The company shifted to larger bikes in the late 1960s, challenging British motorcycles with 650cc and 750cc motorcycles. But real stiff competition came from Japan. Laverda tried to keep up with a liter-class triple and even a short-lived V6 race motorcycle.
As Motorcycle Classics notes, the RGS 1000 was one of the last all-new designs to come out of the company before the Laverda family bowed out. This bike features robust Bayflex plastics, adjustable pegs and a 981cc air-cooled triple. Top speed is about 130 mph with power rated at 84 hp.
It's $8,800 on Cycle Trader near Indio, California with 45,220 miles.
1996 Nissan Skyline GTS-4 - $13,995
The Nissan Skyline GT-R is beloved by JDM fans and prices for them have gotten so high that some listings are into the six figures. This is beginning to trickle down to lower models as well. If you don't have that kind of dough, perhaps a Skyline sedan like this one may interest you.
This Skyline is a GTS-4 has an RB25DE straight six making about 180 HP. That goes through a manual transmission and AWD. That's a far cry from what the GT-R of the same generation makes, but should be enough for some fun. This car is notable for being stock — save for the wheels — with 34,000 miles.
It's $13,995 on Craigslist in Greenville, South Carolina.
1973 Volkswagen Beetle Wagon - $13,000
The Volkswagen Type 1, also known as the Beetle, was not just the car that put so many families on wheels, but the platform for so many custom builds. People have turned Beetles into creations that look like other cars, made them faster, or made them more practical.
This Beetle was made into a woody wagon that hearkens back to the woody wagons of the 1940s. The seller provides no details about it, but the pictures show what appears to be some good handiwork went into making the wagon. That said, maybe it's my eyes, but those windows look like plastic.
Still, it's a pretty cool wagon. It's $13,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
1995 Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 - Auction
For this week's enthusiast car I'm doing something a little different. This car is an auction, but for some of you, it may be worth it!
A number of gearheads have grown up with the Toyota Celica GT-Four as a rally car in their favorite racing game or as a poster on their wall. And it has good reason to be such a dream vehicle. We're talking about a car making rated at 252 horses and 224 lb-ft torque, transmitting the power to all wheels through a manual transmission. Plus, who can forget those looks.

This Celica GT-Four ST205 is going up at the JU Gifu auction in a day, lot 5099. Condition grade is 3.5, or great for a daily driver with some minor imperfections. It has about 58,408 miles on its odometer and appears to be largely unmodified. Auction statistics suggest that this could sell between $13,000 and $16,000.
The best way to get in on it is to contact an importer. I've used the Import Guys and Japan Car Direct to great success for my own imports.
1955 Lincoln Capri - $14,500
If you're one of the lucky ones not to be buried under snow, I have a classic for you!
This full-size luxury car gets its name from the Italian island of the same name and it's dripping with 1950s style. I'm talking covered wheel wells, oh so much chrome, and fins. It went up to bat against the Cadillac Series 62, Chrysler New Yorker and Packard 200.
Power comes from a 5.6-liter 225 HP V8 and a three-speed auto.
It's $14,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Chicago, Illinois with original 64,000 miles.
1977 Hercules W-2000 - $15,000
The last vehicle on this list is an expensive motorcycle, but of the likes we'll never see again. There have been a number of rotary-powered motorcycles over the years, but they all owe their designs to the Hercules W-2000.
This bike uses a 294cc Sachs rotary that produces 27 horses. Originally, the rider had to mix oil in with the fuel because the engine didn't have an oil sump. This W-2000 is a later model, featuring an oil injection system.
It also has a low 1,867 miles on its odometer. Just about 1,800 of these were made, and so far as I can tell, very few are in the States. It's $15,000 on Craigslist in Edgewater, Florida.
That's it for this week! Have you purchased a car from one of these posts? If so, I want to know.
If you know of a weird car for sale on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, drop it down in the comments or send it along in an email! If the car's still for sale, we may feature it in a future post.
