The Ford Aspire would be the poster child for crappy Korean autobox rebadge jobs except no one ever put the Ford Aspire on a poster. But with a few Wendy's trays, a big dream, and a crappy car these guys made donuts happen.
I had the predecessor to this car, the Festiva. It was my first car and I liked it. With the manual, it did 0-60 in 10 seconds mostly through lightness combined with the 1.3L 4 cyl. It felt faster than an Escort with the base 1.9L engine.
The problem with the Aspire was they only made some minor tweaks to the engine which added 1hp (an increase to 64hp), but they added a lot more weight by making it bigger, quieter, adding airbags and other safety equipment. They should have equipped the thing with the 1.5L that was available in other markets so it would maintain the peppy feel.
But since the redesigned model was slower and closer in price to the Escort, people just opted for the Escort instead.
