This 30L Russian Radial Aircraft Engine Sounds Like You Woke Up A Dragon

This massive, air-cooled 30,000 cc/1000 HP radial engine is from an old Soviet Anatov aircraft. The startup procedure is long and involved, and the result sounds and looks like almost nothing else. It's like a mechanical dragon waking up.

It squeals and snorts and belches exhaust from its nine cylinders, all around its body, and at night I think it sleeps on a massive pile of gold coins and waits for some foolish knight to challenge it.

Now THAT's rolling coal. I bet all those people downwind were coated in a fine mist of oil (notice they all moved pretty quickly).
