Early internet content was incredibly cringey as folks figured out how to produce entertaining content. Recently when my totally normal brain told me to scour the internet for more information about the Dodge Caliber’s tailgate-mounted boombox, I stumbled across an old video on the Stellantis YouTube channel. Which naturally led me down a rabbit hole where I watched several cringey corporate YouTube videos from the late 2000s. The channel was formed in January of 2008, just months before the financial crisis kicked in and Chrysler got bailed out by the government. Anyone who is a late millennial and older may experience flashbacks from watching these videos, but I implore you to power through and watch at least a little bit of each of them.

Have modern corporate videos become less cringe? If the Stellantis YouTube channel is any indication, I’d say nominally. At least the production value has gone up and the auto show footage has mercifully been eliminated. Through exploring Stellantis’ oldest YouTube videos, I really felt my age. I remember seeing many of these vehicles at the LA Auto Show as a kid and I remember spending my allowance on car magazines to read the reviews about Chrysler’s then-new models. If you’re ready to go back in time, check out these wacky, cringey old YouTube videos.

The Jeep Tiki Dig

This is a great marketing idea, but recording people frantically digging through a giant sand box with the hopes of winning a new Wrangler feels like something a king would force his jesters to do for entertainment.

Small Shows

This one’s personal. I am grappling with the reality of how incredibly outdated everything from my youth now looks. I remember watching old footage from the ‘70s and ‘80s and asking my parents if that’s really what the world looked like back then because it seemed so improbably outdated. Now I sit here watching videos from my childhood and ask myself the same question. Watching everyone walking around with digital cameras is triggering me..

Ram Challenge

Watching average folks do these challenges is always slightly cringe. Pair that with the cringe of early corporate YouTube content and you’ve got a full-blown, skin-crawling cringe fest.

Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Team Profiles

There’s nothing too bad about this video, but it’s just strange that the company chose to share this on its YouTube channel. Did Chrysler think this content was in any way compelling, enticing, or exciting for watchers? Gauging by the fact that the video sits just below 1,000 views after 14 years, that wasn’t the case.

Big 3 Affects Me

Doug’s heart is in the right place. At least I think it is, this video doesn’t actually do much to explain the purpose of the initiative or the cause it goes to fund beyond sending profits to the Make A Wish Foundation. I love a good button as much as the next guy, but the fact that this video currently sits at 299 views and he talks about getting left on read by George W. Bush doesn’t bode well for the cause.

Chrysler promising quality improvements and innovative new cars like the impressively dull Chrysler Sebring feels like deja vu.

Green Scene Nov 2008 1Mbps Stream

When scrolling through the oldest videos on Stellantis’ YouTube channel, many of the earliest videos focus on Chrysler’s commitment to eco-friendliness and alternative fuel vehicles. Those videos quickly wane in frequency until you see virtually no mention of alternative fuel vehicles. I understand that it takes a while to get a concept to reality, but Jeep had a Wrangler with an electrified powertrain 16 years ago, yet it took the brand 13 more years to release the Wrangler 4xe. The only Stellantis EV that’s currently on sale in the U.S. is the niche Fiat 500e, which shouldn’t be the case given how production-ready these electrified concepts looked in 2008.

The video title says it all. There are a few videos on the channel that have “revised” in the title, which is just plain funny to see.

These Ram heavy duty fans sure are passionate about their pickups. Seeing the buttoned-up white collar executives discussing how much they know their customer, and then cutting to the customers wearing cowboy hats and shouting with drawls is rich.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Couture

I have never heard of the PT Cruiser Couture, and it almost seems like the program manager isn’t confident in his knowledge about it either. That or he’s just struggling to make a gussied up PT Cruiser sound interesting. Either way, it’s a fun one.

Tailgating with Dodge Grand Caravan and Dodge Caliber

This was the video that started me down the rabbit hole. I was searching for information about the Dodge Caliber’s tailgate-mounted boombox, and this video came up. Watching executives play the role of “relatable everyday fella” is a great recipe for cringe, and this video doesn’t disappoint.

Selected of God Choir-”Lose Yourself”

This video placed so high because it has nothing to do with Chrysler or cars. It’s just a choir singing at an auto show, and it’s actually one of the most-watched videos on the channel which is even funnier. This choir did a fantastic job in this performance and they deserve their 115k views.

2013 Dodge Dart Quality Testing

An actual quote from this video about Dodge Dart quality, “if we don’t build a quality product we don’t have any reason to exist in the eyes of the customer.” The Dart currently has 10 recalls issued, and is a notoriously unreliable and unrecommended used car to buy.

1) The Most Unhinged Testimonial

Town & Country Webad

This video has 154 views after 16 years, and I honestly don’t know how it got that many views in the first place. I’m not sure if “webad” is supposed to mean “web ad” or if it’s some inside joke that was left in 2008, but the only word I can find to describe this video is unhinged. Someone please make it make sense.
