These Are The New Cars Our Readers Are Most Excited About In 2025

A new year means new cars, although some readers a little flexible with their definition of "new"

Soon, the horrors of 2024 will give way to fresh, new horrors for 2025, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to look forward to. A new year also means new cars, and whether you plan to buy one or just hope to see one on the road, it's always exciting when the new models start showing up on dealer lots.

On Tuesday, we asked you what new cars you were looking forward to, and while there were plenty of responses from edgelords who were proud to say "none of them," others had much more interesting answers. Some of those may have stretched the definition of what we'd consider new, but you know what? We're a big tent here at Jalopnik. Let's see what our readers picked.

BMW M2

The R3 is definitely one I'm watching, but I'll go with the new M2 Competition. By all accounts the M2 is a return to form for BMW, back to the days when M cars were all the things: great powertrains, transcendent handling, and as practical as you could expect from a performance coupe. And it's avoided the grille horrors of it's stablemates.

You'll probably be watching for the Rivian R3 well into 2026, if not 2027, but a more hardcore M2 should be a fun distraction while you wait. It seems like most places think it's going to be called the CS, but who cares? Bring on a quicker M2.

Kia K4

Kia K4, weirdly enough. I know it's just another CVT econobox, but I think it looks pretty sharp, especially in wagon form. I know they won't, but it'd be awesome if they made a full GT trim with a 5 speed and the 2.5 from the K5 GT.

The new K4s are already on dealer lots as you're reading this, but Kia is only just now holding a first drive event, so it totally still counts. Plus, it's always good to see increased competition in the compact sedan segment.

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

"because the American people love them some SUVs"

That's because the American people are a bunch boring meat sacks trying to cosplay as single people with a family and won't buy a proper practical car like a Minivan, because Becky and Chad next door got a Mercedes GLS 63 to ferry their little pride and joy to violin, piano, soccer, and ballet practice...

Now I for 1 am excited about the C8 Zr1 and the Lamborghini Temerario. A V8 that revs to 10K!? yes please!

There's no way this much anger at SUVs is healthy, but a Corvette with more than 1,000 horsepower? That kicks ass no matter who you are.

Toyota 4Runner

finally, a new 4Runner. ....eventually.

This thing is going to absolutely print money for Toyota and dealerships. Just don't think about the inevitable dealer markups if you'd rather avoid getting a splitting headache.

Ford Mustang GTD

Looking forward to seeing a Mustang GTD and a ID.Buzz in person.

Even though I know I'm not remotely enough of a talented driver to get the most out of this car, I'm still dying to drive one. Or perhaps a ride in the passenger seat while a professional drives is the move. Either way, this thing is cool.

Ram 1500 Ramcharger

1. Ramcharger PHEV (EREV) plug-in pickup

2. Jeep Gladiator 4xe PHEV

3. Rivian R2

Several people said the Ramcharger was their answer, which is probably a pretty good sign for the folks hoping to sell a lot of them. An electric pickup truck with a range extender is a pretty cool idea, so I can't blame them, either.

Sadly, the new Rivians won't go into production until 2026, but maybe if I call RJ he can move the production timeline up just for Jalopnik.

Lexus LX 700h

The Lexus LX700h. The top dog in the Land Cruiser family.

I know it's lame to care about gas mileage, but if you're going to buy a big SUV, you might as well get the a hybrid.

Dodge Charger

REALLY looking forward to the new Charger. Can't wait for that heavy ass thing.

Whether you're interested in the electric version or not, it'll at least be fun to see a new Charger on the road after what feels like decades of almost the exact same design.

TBD

The one that will replace my 09 Audi S5. Don't know exactly what that will be yet though!

Might I suggest the Miata? Have you thought about the Miata? You should buy a Miata. Coming from an S5, I suspect you won't, but hey, buying a new car is exciting no matter which one you end up with. Especially if it's a Mustang GTD.

Nissan R34 GT-R

definitely Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, especially after 25-year rules

kinda sad that Nissan once japanese automaker that once can make a better M3 / M4 than M3 / M4 itself now is just a shadow of its past glory

Burn all your cash buying an R34 V-Spec II. You know you want to. It may be an old car, but it's new to us. Sort of.
