That rule that you can only bring three ounce bottles through airport security is really annoying, but it's been a fact of life for years now. So what do you do with a 1.75-liter bottle of Smirnoff vodka you've "forgotten" to remove from your carry-on luggage?
If you're this woman who went through Dulles International Airport security yesterday, you start drinking it and allegedly offer the rest to other people in line. Luckily, someone saw this going down and thought (correctly) that the world would like to see it on Facebook.
Woman at Dulles security line, unable to carry her plastic handle of Smirnoff vodka through security, is currently drinking it in line and offering swigs to other passengers. It's 7:30am and TSA is not amused. - at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
We reached out to TSA and Dulles Airport for comment, but were unable to muster a response about this TSA line scandal, which was silly enough to have made the front page of reddit.
To TSA we say, lighten up! At least she was creative about how she disposed of it. Hell, I would have taken a pull. Drinks at the airport bar are way too expensive. (Hat tip to transportgooru!)
UPDATE: Oct. 3, 9:56 a.m.: A TSA spokesperson got back to us, but hadn't heard about the incident or what happened to the mystery vodka swiller.
"TSA doesn't make arrests," she said. "If there's an incident, we refer it to the local police."
Note to self.
UPDATE: Oct. 3, 11:30 a.m.: Washington Dulles International Airport's public affairs office has confirmed that the vodka chugging traveler was not arrested. I've rerouted all of my future travel plans through IAD, where I not know it's possible to party in the security line before a flight.
